Maker space teams in the gym this session came up with some exciting and active games. Basket Dodge and Rabbits and Carrots were enjoyed by all. In the videos you can see elements of dodgeball, basketball and blob tag combined in new ways. Participants got great workouts and had a lot of fun in the process. A few groups in music makerspace have been working on story telling. They have created original stories and told them using instruments for effect. They have to think about which instruments would make good effects for which section of the story, and how they are going to create a certain mood to enhance the story. We have also had a few original group compositions featuring some solos, and some larger ensemble pieces. One group played all together but also had a solo section for everyone to take a turn!
Students have been hard at work in the gym creating games that invite participants to exhibit good teamwork, hustle and encouragement. I tell the students that when I watch a game being played I ask myself it; "Is a game I would like to play?", and "Are these teammates I would like to play with?". This session's group did a fantastic job and my answers were a resounding yes. Find The Pig and Scooter Dodge are two games that combine the students' favorite skills and objectives of previously played games in new ways. Students worked together, not only during the creation phase, but also the execution phase as you can see in the video. Great work and I look forward to seeing what these minds can think up next. In 4th grade specials rotation, we have recently begun makerspace. This means that students choose which space they would like to create in (P.E., music, art, or makerspace) and go to that space for 3 rotation days. We have just finished our first 3 week cycle and here are some of the projects that the students have created! The two students in this video have done some experimentation with form, instrument choice, and intervals. They created a song following an ABAB' form and using unison and fifths! Enjoy! These three students used two of their band instruments, a glocknespiel, a snare drum and their voices to create this masterpiece! This group chose to experiment with some new instruments as well as two that they already played! Maggie and Alayna teamed up to compose a piece of music for the flute! They "hired" Caleb to perform the premier of their piece and they conducted his performance! Check out their masterwork! A few students decided to take a song they already knew and create new words to show how much they love our school. Two groups were working on this project and decided to collaborate to create this song! Check out their process and their final product!
Check out our student music projects! Some students have been creating instruments, like our homemade drum set, and others have been creating pieces of music! One group even created a short video to advertise music makerspace! Students continue to collaborate and inspire one another.
Below are pictures from various Maker Space groups. Some students worked with a parent volunteer, Mrs. Harlow, on building marble runs. Other projects highlighted below include Tinkercad/3-D printing, finger-knitting, clay bracelets, Lego robotics, a diorama, puppet making, and a yarn weaved container. |
