Thank you to Jon Tozia's high school wood shop students, who created custom cabinets for our maker space. These cabinets will store our materials, while also creating a space to work or store ongoing projects. They have castors and were designed to be connected or stand on their own, freeing us to "make" the space for the kids' needs.Yesterday, a few students came to try out the space. You can see their ideas in the Student Projects section. At this point, we are inviting students who have some ideas already to come during times when Mrs. Johnson is available. We will use what we learn from watching them work and talking with them to help us understand the needs for the room.
Already we are finding the benefit of having multiple projects going on, as students who were working on book binding were chiming in with ideas for a student working on a new math game. We learned yesterday that our materials we ordered for the high school shop department to construct some rolling storage cabinets have arrived and we hope the high schoolers can build fast! Maker Space Committee members were hard at work Thursday setting up the space. This month we well be having some students try out some projects in our space and give feedback to the committee.
